We're thrilled to share some exciting developments in our Chinese, Cultural, and Community Education Programme! This year, with invaluable support from our Monitoring and Evaluation volunteer, Ringo, we've dedicated ourselves to revamping our assessment model and content. After a year-long process, we're incredibly pleased to introduce our brand-new Play-Based Assessment!
Welcome to the world of "粵講粵叻百貨公司" (CantoGather Department Store)!
This innovative assessment is set within a vibrant department store environment, featuring seven distinct zones like a Membership application desk, a gashapon corner, and a bustling food court. Within these fun and interactive areas, students will engage in various assessment tasks that cover listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It's truly learning through play, transforming what can sometimes be a daunting experience into an exciting adventure!
Beyond Just Testing: Our Multi-Faceted Goals
This isn't just about traditional testing; it's about making learning come alive and serving multiple crucial purposes. The objectives of our new play-based assessment are:
To assess students' Chinese language proficiency, specifically their knowledge and usage of vocabulary and sentence structures.
To evaluate students' ability to apply Cantonese in real-life situations. The assessment tasks are designed to mimic everyday scenarios, testing students' ability to complete various communication tasks, such as expressing their favourite transport or telling the assessor what food and fruit they need based on a shopping list.
To align with established educational standards. We have carefully designed this assessment to match the learning objectives outlined in the Education Bureau's Chinese Language Curriculum Second Language Framework, ensuring our approach is as comprehensive as possible.
To diagnose and place students at the right learning level. We offer five tiered learning materials, and this assessment provides us with a clear understanding of each student's current proficiency, allowing us to meet them precisely where they are.
To monitor student progress throughout our programme. We'll conduct the assessment both before and after the programme to track learning progress, all while ensuring students have a blast!
Making Assessment Fun and Engaging!
Our biggest hope for this new assessment is to make the experience truly engaging and enjoyable for every student. We want them to have fun with the assessment itself, fostering a positive association with learning and evaluation. We firmly believe that when learning is fun, progress is inevitable!
