Board Direction — Treasurer

Location: Hybrid

Commitment: 8-12 hours per month

Compensation: Voluntary

The Opportunity

CantoGather is looking for a Board Treasurer to help strengthen our financial governance, decision-making, and long-term sustainability.

This is not a bookkeeping role. Day-to-day accounting support is already in place. We are looking for someone who can bring financial clarity, good judgment, and strategic oversight as CantoGather grows.

The Treasurer will help the Board understand the organisation’s financial position, ask the right questions, strengthen systems, and support wise stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

You May Contribute By

  • providing Board-level oversight of CantoGather’s financial health, sustainability, and risk

  • helping the Board understand budgets, forecasts, cash flow, reserves, and financial reports

  • advising on financial policies, internal controls, grant tracking, and programme costing

  • supporting annual budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and financial planning

  • working with the Executive Director, bookkeeper, accountant, auditor, and Board as needed

  • helping CantoGather build financial systems that support responsible growth

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a mid-to-senior leader with around 5-10+ years of experience in finance, financial management, accounting, financial operations, governance, risk, or organisational leadership.

Experience with Hong Kong charity finance, Section 88 charities, audits, grant reporting, nonprofit compliance, or financial controls would be a strong advantage, but is not required.

Bookkeeping or accounting experience is welcome, but the heart of this role is strategic financial oversight: helping a growing charity make clear, responsible, mission-aligned decisions.

Board Director — Community Partnerships

Location: Hybrid

Commitment: 8-12 hours per month

Compensation: Voluntary

The Opportunity

CantoGather is looking for a Board Director who can help us deepen trust, relevance, and partnership across Hong Kong’s ethnically diverse communities.

Rooted in the Christian call to love our neighbours as ourselves, CantoGather works inside Chinese-medium primary schools to help non-Chinese students grow in Chinese language confidence, build intercultural understanding among students, and strengthen connection between families and schools.

This role is for someone who understands that belonging is built through relationships. You may bring lived experience from Hong Kong’s ethnically diverse communities, deep community networks, experience in education or family support, or strong insight into how organisations can serve across cultures with humility and respect.

You May Contribute By

  • helping CantoGather build trusted relationships with community organisations, families, schools, churches, and civic networks

  • advising on community needs, cultural relevance, parent engagement, and inclusive programme design

  • opening doors to partnerships that strengthen our reach and credibility

  • helping us listen well and serve non-Chinese students and families in practical, respectful ways

  • acting as an ambassador for CantoGather’s mission across communities and sectors

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a mid-to-senior leader with around 5-10+ years of professional, community, education, nonprofit, or leadership experience.

We would especially value someone who brings ethnically diverse lived experience, trusted community relationships, or a strong track record in community partnerships, education, family engagement, intercultural work, or social impact.

Board experience is welcome but not required. What matters most is wisdom, relational trust, cultural sensitivity, and a deep commitment to building community across differences.

Board Director — Resource Development & Sustainability

Location: Hybrid

Commitment: 8-12 hours per month

Compensation: Voluntary

The Opportunity

CantoGather is looking for a Board Director who can help us grow our resources, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

Since 2021, CantoGather has partnered with primary schools across Hong Kong to support non-Chinese students, parents, tutors, volunteers, and whole school communities. As our work grows, we need stronger funding pathways, strategic partnerships, and organisational foundations to sustain our impact.

This role is for someone who can help a young charity move from promising early growth to long-term stability. You may bring experience in fundraising, philanthropy, corporate partnerships, nonprofit leadership, business development, strategy, or organisational growth.

Essential Responsibilities

  • advising on fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and income diversification

  • opening doors to funders, foundations, companies, churches, and strategic partners

  • helping strengthen CantoGather’s case for support and impact communication

  • supporting long-term thinking around sustainability, reserves, risk, and growth

  • being a practical thought partner to the Executive Director and Board as the organisation develops

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a mid-to-senior leader with around 5-10+ years of experience in fundraising, philanthropy, partnerships, business development, nonprofit leadership, finance, strategy, or organisational development.

We would especially value someone who understands how small mission-driven organisations grow sustainably, and who is willing to contribute not only advice, but also networks, introductions, strategic judgment, and practical support.

Board experience is welcome but not required. What matters most is credibility, initiative, generosity, and a strong sustainability lens.

Our Expectations for Directors

All Directors are expected to align with CantoGather’s CARE values: Creative & Curious, Authentic & Aware, Resilient & Responsible, and Energetic & Engaging.

We are looking for someone who is committed to upholding and advancing CantoGather’s Christian mission and values, and who is comfortable supporting the way our faith shapes our leadership culture, stewardship, and decision-making. You can read more about how faith impacts our work here.

Why Join Us

This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape a young, values-driven charity at a pivotal stage of growth. You will help CantoGather grow its partnerships, strengthen its fundraising capacity, deepen its community wisdom, and build a movement where children and families across cultures experience dignity, friendship, and belonging.
