What happens when a school hall transforms into a vibrant festival of culture? We had the joy of finding out as we brought our multicultural funfair to the students of Toi Shan Association Primary School. It was an incredible day where learning happened through laughter, play, and shared discovery.
A World of Discovery in Every Corner
The air buzzed with excitement as students from each grade explored a wide array of interactive booths. Each station was more than just a game; it was a doorway to a new culture. Students sorted fragrant spices, wrote multilingual "thank you" cards, and learned traditional street games. Through every activity, we saw barriers break down and bridges built as students celebrated the diverse cultures of their neighbours here in Hong Kong. The hall was filled not just with noise, but with a spirit of curiosity and acceptance.
Unforgettable Moments and a Chungi Champion!
The day was full of memorable highlights! We saw incredible teamwork during the three-legged race, with one ambitious group attempting the challenge with seven people at once. The "Chungi" challenge, a popular game from Nepal, was also a massive hit, with one student amazing everyone by kicking the chungi six consecutive times!
After completing their tasks, students eagerly redeemed their stamps for exciting gifts. The most popular were delicious South and Southeast Asian snacks and special stickers featuring teas from around the world, beautifully illustrating the theme of "harmony in diversity."
A Lasting Reminder of Unity
To capture the spirit of the day, students came together to create a collaborative art piece, stamping their thumbs on paper as a symbol of unity. Each student also took home a specially designed postcard showing people of different ethnicities saying "hello" in various languages against a Hong Kong backdrop—a beautiful, lasting reminder of our city's rich diversity.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to share this joyful experience with the school. A huge thank you goes to our dedicated volunteers, whose tireless passion and energy made the day a success. Events like these plant the seeds for a more inclusive and harmonious community, and we can't wait for the next opportunity to celebrate what makes our city so special.
